We the People/Dual Citizenship

Join us for a FREE 10 week course on what our rights are, what principles our country was founded on, and what it means for us as Christians today.

Read these questions below to test your knowledge of our Founders, our nation’s biblical roots and understanding our Constitution and Bill of Rights. We can not defend what we do not know or understand!

  1. True or False: In 1609, a large cross was planted at Plymouth Rock when Reverend Robert Hunt dedicated our land to God.

FASLE: Pastor Robert Hunt dedicated our nation to God at Jamestown, VA in 1607 by raising a large wooden cross and giving this dedication:

“We do hereby dedicate this Land, and ourselves, to reach the People within these shores with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to raise up Godly generations after us, and with these generations take the Kingdom of God to all the earth. May this Covenant of Dedication remain to all generations, as long as this earth remains, and may this Land, along with England, be Evangelist to the World. May all who see this Cross, remember what we have done here, and may those who come here to inhabit join us in this Covenant and in this most noble work that the Holy Scriptures may be fulfilled.” - Pastor Robert Hunt

  2. Most people are familiar with certain rights from our Bill of Rights. Most people can name two or three of these rights…how many can you name? Hint: there are 10!

While our American Constitution is made up of 7 Articles and 27 Amendments, only the first 10 Amendments make up what we call the Bill of Rights.

    The Bill of Rights:

Amendment 1: Freedom: Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition

Amendment 2: Right to Bear Arm

    Amendment 3: Quartering Soldiers

Amendment 4: Freedom of Person: Warrants, Searches, and Seizures

Amendment 5: Capital Crimes: Double Jeopardy, Grand Jury, etc.

Amendment 6: Trial by Jury: Accusations, Witnesses, Counsel

    Amendment 7: Civil Law

Amendment 8: Bails, Fines, and Punishment

Amendment 9: Rights Retained by the People

Amendment 10: Rights Reserved for the States

We will discuss each of these in more depth during the class time.

  3. How many delegates from the state of North Carolina signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776? Bonus: What date was the Declaration primarily signed?

There were 3 North Carolinian signers of the Declaration of Independence. William Hooper, John Penn, and Joseph Hewes.

Bonus: The actual signing happened primarily on August 2, 1776, however, the vote to approve the Declaration was on July 4, 1776, by 56 delegates of the Second Continental Congress.

  4. What was the most quoted source used by our Founding Fathers as they sought to rally support from the people to gain independence from England?

“According to a University of Houston study of roughly 15,000 writings of the Founding Fathers, the most quoted sources used by the Founding Fathers were:

John Locke: “the father of liberty”; 2.9% influence, 4th greatest contributor

William Blackstone: wrote Commentaries on the Laws of England; 7.9% influence, 3rd greatest contributor

Baron De Montesquieu: wrote The Spirit of Laws (where we got the executive, legislative and judicial branches from); 8.3% influence, 2nd greatest contributor

the Bible: inalienable rights and moral code foundations; 34% influence, 1st greatest contributor”

(information taken from Patriot Academy’s Biblical Citizenship workbook; Barton, David & Green, Rick)

  5. True or False: Our government is set up as a direct democracy.

False. In a direct democracy, the people govern themselves. The citizens make the policies and enforce them. In an indirect democracy, the citizens do not directly handle the affairs of the government. They elect officials to make policies and the people who enforce them.

  6. True or False: The Vice Presidency has always been the person appointed by the President as a running mate.

False. In the earliest elections of our nation, the person who finished second (who had the second most electoral votes) was who became the Vice President. This is the way that the Founding Fathers who wrote the Constitution intended our election process to work and to be balanced.
